Augmented Reality

So, I've been exploring the technicalities and coolness of " Augmented Reality " AR at my workplace over the last week or so. It's a process of basically overlaying 2d or 3d images onto video of the world in "real time". This can be done using a video camera and a computer which could then lead to some kind of headset in the future. The process has been around for a number of years, but recently it has become possible to do it relatively easy on a website. here is a video that got our curiosity going -- It's designed using Adobe Flash, a code library called papervision3d , and another library called FLARToolKit based off of ARToolKit. Saqoosha, who translated the code to work with flash, has some sample code to get started http://saqoosha.net/en/flartoolkit/start-up-guide/ There is a nice starter article that I've been going back to more than once from Mikko Haapoja out of Toronto: www.mikkoh.com/blog/ A company called Boffswana designed a litt...

Fugglies Demo

Here is a little video we've put together at my work. It kinda came out of some of my experiments with motion tracking and just general craziness.

motion tracking

So, at work awhile ago I had been playing around with motion tracking. Here is what I came up with.

"River" the movie

I designed the website for the movie "River" directed by Mark Wihak from Regina here. I just did a few tweaks to the website and thought I would point people towards it to go check it out. You can find the beautiful little site at www.riverthemovie.com It's a really nice little film and its a pleasure to see your hometown and a few friends on screen. Also, maybe if your adventurous enough you could try to do a screening of this film in your city by contacting Mark.

Another video

here is yet another video that I put together.

Crystals

Image
So, the other day at my work we came up with this crazy idea to put some 3d objects into crystal. There is a way of taking a 3d picture of yourself and have it put into a crystal using a laser. I went and did a little looking around and found this cool site where this person puts mathematical objects into crystal. SUPER COOL!! http://www.bathsheba.com/crystal/

The slow blogger

The "job" of being a blogger. I suppose it's worth while to keep posting on here with the chance that someone looks at this semi regularly. I've been living the life of a 9 to 5-er. It's certainly no normal 9 to 5, but I could never live the normal bump and grind life. Part of my job over the past little while has been to look after various aspects of my bosses website for his book " Imagining the Tenth Dimension ". There have been all numbers of things I had to learn about while looking after this little project. I've been using all number of google tools to track parts of the sites success. I'm been in awe of google calendar, spreadsheet, notebook, analytics, adsense, books, sketchup, and earth. It's certainly had an impact on my life. People should really go check out all those wonderful google stuff. I've also become a Apple head as of late. I picked up a little macbook pro the other day and it has been a regular help and wor...
